What’s the scariest thing you can think of when it comes to a survival horror game? If you answered with “a beaver” than you would be correct! Ok maybe that’s hyperbole, but Techland is using a pretty creepy…err, friendly beaver to help promote Dying Light: The Beast as players get read to visit Castor Woods next month.
Today, Techland gave us a bigger glimpse at Dying Light: The Beast, namely the games location. Set in Castor Woods nature reserve where guests come to rent out cabins and explore, it has now turned into quite the hub for zombies. The trailer gives us quite a bit of backstory about Castor Woods and it’s mascot Bober The Beaver.

Franchise Director Tymon Smektała spoke a bit about the inspiration behind Bober & the history of Castor Woods:
“While working on the world of Dying Light: The Beast, it was important to us that it be filled with hidden stories and small, interesting details that make the world feel more lively and immersive. At one point, our artists pitched the idea of including beavers in the worldbuilding _ and we loved it. What started as a small environmental detail quickly evolved into something much bigger…”
Katarzyna Tarnacka-Polito, Art Director added:
“Part of the Castor Woods locations are flooded. When we started asking ourselves why, our brainstorms led us to beavers. We created a backstory especially for this purpose: the Castor Woods valley has always been home to a large beaver population. Without humans around to keep them in check, the beavers reshaped the flow of rivers, and the valley was flooded as a result. From there, we just kept expanding the idea… “
Dying Light: The Beast releases on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and PC on August 22nd.
