Assassin's Creed Live-Action Series Coming to Netflix

In an official announcement via Ubisoft News, Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action Assassin's Creed series. The highly anticipated adaptation will be led by Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo). Both will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. The series will follow new characters across pivotal historical events in the ongoing battle to control humanity's fate.

The partnership between Netflix and Ubisoft was first announced in 2020. Since then we have seen the show "Captain Laserhawk: A Bood Dragon Remix", with "Splinter Cell: Deathwatch" coming this fall. Assassin's Creed will be the first live-action series in the partnership between Netflix and Ubisoft.

"We look forward to delivering an experience that truly captures the heart of what fans love about Assassin’s Creed"”its unforgettable worlds, compelling characters, and timeless themes"”while also introducing this iconic franchise to a new global audience," said Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television.

Both Patino and Wiener have said to have been fans of the series since its initial release in 2007. "We’ve got an amazing team behind us with the folks at Ubisoft and our champions at Netflix, and we’re committed to creating something undeniable for fans all over the planet,” said by Wiener and Patino in a joint statement.

Assassin's Creed is one of the most popular and globally recognized video game franchises, known for its rich storytelling and historical settings. Over the years, the franchise has expanded beyond gaming, including a live-action film (2016), a live-action short (2009), as well as several animated shorts and other media tie-ins. Unfortunately, both critics and longtime fans of the series gave the 2016 movie poor reviews.

Ubisoft and Netflix are hoping this return to the beloved franchise will be something fans can be proud of. In addition to the live-action show, Netflix also announced an animated series and an anime series back in 2020. This signals a broader commitment to expanding the franchise into new formats that fans can truly get excited about.
