While it has been some time since we heard anything from Thunder Lotus, developers of Spiritfarer and Sundered, the team has just released the second update for their co-op action roguelite 33 Immortals, and it is a doozy!
Released back on March 18th, 2025, 33 Immortals has players take on the role of Damned Souls looking to get vengeance against a cruel God. They must enter different realms of the afterlife and work together to slay hordes of angels and demons to reach the ruler of each realm.
Read our Early Access Review of 33 Immortals to get our full thoughts on the game. You can also check out our interview with the devs, where we talked about the game’s inspirations, systems, and future.
So steel yourselves, fellow Damned Souls, as we pull some highlights from this grand update.

New
Combat has been given a reworking, including one of the most requested changes that fans have been asking for since the game launched. Now players can just hold down attack buttons to continuously attack as opposed to pressing the button for each action. No doubt, fans and their thumbs will be thrilled with this change. Players can now perform a Dash Attack by triggering an ability, light or heavy attack at the start of their dash for a 20% increase to their damage.
Players will also have the option to Descend after Ascending, letting them return to the battle and help their comrades with their Ascension Battles. Players will need to reach Feat level 9 to unlock this, and it will cost 50 Stardust to Descend.
The Compendium has been updated to feature more information about status effects, boss mechanics, and a few other additions.

Several accessibility options have been added, though most are focused on PC, such as putting a cap on nonessential Visual Effects and activating or disabling multi-threading. Player pets now disappear during combat, reducing screen clutter, and return once combat has finished.
The Lucido enemy has been reworked, and also had an Elite version added to the game. Acting as 33 Immortals’ loot critters, the devs have made them easier to find and kill, adjusting the loot they drop accordingly. They are also no longer required for the Beastiary feats.
The devs are holding a fun event to entice players back to the game, called the Lucido Hunting Party. Players are challenged to kill 33,333 Lucido enemies across both Inferno and Purgatorio, with the prize for completing the challenge being a Lucido-themed halo and pet! This is the best part: there is no time limit for the event, so hop on in and get to slaying!
Updates
After receiving player feedback after the last update, the developers have recognised that they may have been a bit harsh on how they handled weapons, and so this update sees all four player weapons get nice buffs to their damage and/or Weapon Upgrades. The Feat level required for Weapon Upgrades has also been reduced, meaning players can start collecting Tokens sooner.
One of the biggest changes is to Weapon Traits, which originally increased a base stat depending on the weapon equipped. They now improve the Co-op Powers of each weapon, as listed below:
- Sword of Justice: Weapon trait will increase the shield granted by the Co-op Power by 10% per level. The shield’s base value will be decreased from 20 to 15 to balance this, totaling a possible 30 shield at max level.
- Bow of Hope: Weapon trait will increase the damage from Co-op Power by 5% per level. The arrow’s base damage will be decreased from 250 to 200 to balance this, totaling a possible 300 damage at max level.
- Daggers of Greed: Weapon trait will increase the damage bonus of the Greed Co-op Power by 5% per level. To balance this, the Greed Co-op Power will now scale as follows: 0% when at 0 Bones, 25% at 200 Bones, and 50% at 999 Bones. At max level, this will be: 50% at 0 Bones, 75% at 200 Bones, and 100% at 999 Bones.
- Staff of Sloth: Weapon trait will increase the duration of the Sloth Co-op power by 10% per level. To balance this, the base duration will be decreased from 10 seconds to 8 seconds, totaling a possible 16 seconds at max level.

A large number of Perks have also been reworked to make the less-used Perks more viable for player builds.
One of 33 Immortals’ key mechanics, Co-op Strikes, is getting some adjustments as well. While the devs do not want to diminish their “over-the-top broken” nature, they did want to tidy things up and keep the focus on player cooperation. Here is a list of the changes to Co-op Strikes:
- Heavy Attacks will now increase the Co-Strike counter by 2 per hit.
- Co-op powers will no longer increase the Co-Strike Counter.
- Muddy Apostle Medal and Preserved Heretic Head should no longer be triggered by Co-op Powers.
Emotes and the Emote Wheel have also been given some attention, based on a poll put to the 33 Immortals community.
The tutorial has been given some much-needed improvements, creating a better first-time experience for new players. The main improvements are:
- Beatrice’s dialogue during the tutorial regarding the map and Torture Chamber have been updated slightly for clarity.
- Instead of giving out a specific 3 Perks, first-time players will now receive 1 random Perk from a pool of possible Perks the first time they enter Dark Woods.
- Beatrice’s dialogue has been updated on players’ first trip to Dark Woods to direct players towards the Weapon Shrines and Upgrades menu.

Lastly, the team at Thunder Lotus has made some changes to the UI/UX, ironing out some of the creases left in the game since launch. These changes include:
- A timer will now be displayed on the map at the start of a Journey to count down the 3 minutes until the Chambers unlock.
- Cosmetics will now have a rarity tag when examined in the Wardrobe.
- We’ve added animations to the Perks menu to provide feedback and make upgrading/equipping Perks feel more satisfying.
- Visual effects have been added to the Shop UI button.
You can check out the full update, as well as a list of fixes long enough to wrap around all 09 circles of Hell, on the full post published on the Thunder Lotus site.

Since launching into Early Access, the game has seen over half a million unique players take on the forces of the divine and the demonic, and hopefully, this update will increase that number further. The developers have promised to keep tweaking and updating the game until its predicted full release in early 2026. A roadmap for future content was even revealed, giving fans an idea of what the devs were working on and when they could expect new content, quality of life changes, etc.
Not a great deal has been ticked off the list for the Summer period of the 33 Immortals roadmap, which includes private sessions, the ability to decorate the Dark Woods, and something called an Ordeal System. But it is only mid-July, and the team at Thunder Lotus is no doubt hard at work on these other features.
