Stellar Blade

- Developer: SHIFT UP
- Publisher: PlayStation
- Release Date: Out Now!
- Platforms: PC(Steam), PS5
Just as Stellar Blade was releasing on PC, I picked up my Steam Deck. My first foray into PC gaming in any way for well over 15 years. As a console player through and through, I was very keen to test my new handheld and push it to its absolute limits.
And what I was presented with made me instantly know that my £480 purchase was worth the money. I'd never expect a 60fps flawless experience for such a demanding game, but the 40fps, with occasional slowdown, massively exceeded my expectations. At the same time, the game's visuals really pop on the OLED screen. I've not played the game on PlayStation, but will certainly be picking this up on a sale in the near future. The game has already sold 1 million copies on PC, and one would expect there will be many more millions to follow.

Ratatan
- Developer: TVT Co. Ltd., Ratata Arts
- Publisher: Game Source Entertainment
- Release Date: July 24, 2025
- Platforms: PC(Steam), Xbox One and Series, PS4 and PS5, Nintendo Switch
If you need a fun upbeat tempo with your roguelike games, this could be exactly what you've been waiting for. Ratatan is a rhythm game where runs will vary as you scroll along the map, defeating enemies to the beat of the music. The better your rhythm, the better your attacks will be. Make sure you are strategic in your choices and your music beats in order to claim success.
Ratatan is being called the spiritual successor to Patapon, and it makes sense as it is by the creators of Patapon! Ratatan isn't just the name of the game, but also the name of the creatures who will do battle based on the beats you provide them. You'll have a handful of notes to call out to get the ratatans to attack, fall back, group up, or do some special moves during melee battle. Each fight can be a bit different, and it's important to keep that fever up for maximum efficiency.
The colors are bright, the music is catchy, and honestly, the 2D animation is just so cute. This game is quite infectious in all the best ways. Check out the demo before the full release later this month.

The Drifter

- Developer: Powerhoof, Dave Lloyd
- Publisher: Powerhoof
- Release Date: July 17th, 2025
- Platforms: PC(Steam), Console Releases TBC.

The Drifter is a classic 2D point-and-click adventure with teeth. Inspired by the works of Stephen King and David Cronenberg, it’s a fast-paced thriller with down-to-earth puzzles that feel more investigative rather than obtuse, gluing it all together.
With richly detailed pixel art that captures the game’s dark atmosphere, a fantastically intuitive radial selection system designed for controllers, and a fully voice-acted cast, The Drifter looks and feels like a classic adventure with some wicked twists.

Ra Ra BOOM
- Developer & Publisher: Gylee Games
- Release Date: August 2025
- Platforms: Xbox Series & One, PS5 &4, PC(Steam, Epic)
I didn't know what to expect when I first heard of Ra Ra BOOM, but was so glad I gave it a chance earlier this year at Pax East. Revisiting it did not disappoint. A fantastic beat ’em up with an all-female leading cast. Earth has been overrun by AI, and it's up to you and the team to take out Zoi after an attack occurs at the base. Can you and the cheer squad save Earth?
Each hero has a different style and personality, which allows for trying out different styles of combat. The demo takes you through the tutorial and a crash site after the attack. If you die as one character, you'll get a chance to pick another hero and continue the fight. However, one of the biggest selling points is the lanes that you see on each level. You never have to worry about which lane you are attacking in. When you're playing with four players on the field and so many robots, those lanes really do come in handy. After enough fighting, get a nice little power to take out those evil bots across multiple lanes.
The developers took inspiration from their local areas and people they knew, so it makes sense that the game can and will hit close to home, even as you begin to get to know these characters. The game promises full voice acting as well, and if the demo is any indication, the voice work will be quite enjoyable as well. Leave your pom poms behind and jump in to make those bots go ra ra BOOM!

Dispatch
- Developer & Publisher: Adhoc Studio
- Release Date: 2025
- Platforms: PC(Steam), Consoles (TBA)
Join Robert on his first day at the Superhero Dispatch Network. While once upon a time he was a superhero, his life is a bit less exciting now that he's just the voice on the other line. The demo takes you through the first day at his new job. He'll find himself reunited with other heroes who have retired into simpler office life before dispatching this universe's version of the suicide squad to different missions.
The gameplay on this demo is extremely smooth, smoother than I'm used to during games where your choices matter. The art feels like you are watching the animated show Invincible, to the point where you may forget you are actually playing a game. The voice acting cast is also quite impressive, boasting talents such as Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, Jeffrey Wright, and Erin Yvette. Once you remember you are actually playing a game, you'll get the opportunity to meet the cast of characters you'll be interacting with before sitting at your new day job.
The actual dispatching of the heroes is quite interesting. You'll pick a hero to send to a specific job with varying parameters. Some will even tell you not to send certain heroes. As they complete jobs, they can also level up to be better at other jobs along the way. The characters are also quite a handful, and there may be some colorful language during this moment! You will also get small puzzles to figure out when trying to hack into certain areas to help your crew. With how smooth the gameplay is, you will barely know the demo is over, and you'll be left wanting more.

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault
- Developer: Digital Sun
- Publisher: 11Bit Studios
- Release Date: 2025
- Platforms: PC(Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series
For those who played the first Moonlighter, you may notice it's gone 3D! For those who haven't played before, that's quite alright! This demo gives you a quick "here's what you need to know" before throwing you into gameplay. Apparently, it's been three months and you haven't given a single dime to Ms. Scratch, and it is time to go on an exploration in the desert. You'll get the opportunity to try out the new controls in this 3D roguelike (be careful you don't roll off the edge, it's possible).
As you learn all of the controls, you'll find relics along the way and understand the basic mechanics of exploration and encounter some of the monsters you'll come across in your travels. Open up any chests you find so you get some goodies to sell once you're back in town. This is extremely important. Once you return to town, you'll be putting up goods for sale and speaking with potential clients. When a customer is interested in a showcase, you'll need to start the deal and get them to not only buy an item, but buy an item at a boosted price. Yes, this is all part of the journey to get home. In town, you'll also be able to craft better weapons to make your explorations just a bit easier.
Can you help the merchant return to his amazing home of Rynoka? The controls are smooth, the gameplay in this demo was even smoother, and this roguelike seems to be ready to provide players with hours of fun!

Platypus Reclayed

- Developer & Publisher: Claymatic Games
- Release Date: 2025
- Platforms: PC(Steam), PS4 & 5, Xbox Series & One, Nintendo Switch
Platypus is a game that I've reported on a number of times during my time with GSC. The remake, or Reclay if you will, is a complete rebuild of an iconic clay-built shooter from 23 years in the past. Walking into the London Games Fest with the GSC UK team earlier this year and seeing the game for the first time since my childhood really caught me off guard and took me back.
I was lucky enough to play a co-op demo with "˜Addy' at the event, which I believe was the same demo I played during Steam Next Fest. The several levels available were a real treat to play. What surprised me was the variety in difficulty levels; basic difficulty was a challenge for shmup novices like me, with the hardest difficulty being something bullet hell fans will certainly find a challenge.
You can learn more about the game's incredible art style and development in our exclusive interview with the creator, Anthony Flack. The game's development is well documented via their active Discord.
