Helldivers 2 Coming To Xbox This August

After all kinds of terrible news for Xbox and its fans yesterday with multiple games cancelled and jobs lost, it's time for some good news. PlayStation's massive hit Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox Series consoles this August.

Announced on social media and on the Xbox Wire blog, Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox marks a historical day in gaming. While games like MLB The Show and Death Stranding came to Xbox, they were published by different companies on the platform. Helldivers 2 will be the first time PlayStation actually publishes a game on its rivals consoles.

Helldivers 2 is a PvE third-person shooter where players will team up with 3 others to fight for democracy and battle hordes of alien like foes. Helldivers 2 will also feature full cross-play allowing people to team up across PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

One Of 2024's Biggest

In a bit of a surprise Helldivers 2 took the gaming world by storm by being one of the best selling games of 2024. In just 3 months the game has sold 12 million copies and became the fastest selling game ever in PlayStation's portfolio.

Many fans had been asking for the game to come to Xbox but most believed it never would considering PlayStation's stance on exclusivity and putting games on a rival platform.

Helldivers 2 Game Director Mikael Eriksson spoke to Xbox Wire on what this launch means to the studio:

"We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years - and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun."

Interestingly, the release date of August 26th has some added intrigue. On the same day Xbox is publishing Gears Of War: Reloaded on both Xbox & for the first time PlayStation. Will the two games cannibalize each other a bit? Time will tell.

Helldivers 2 will be $39.99USD when it launches and pre-orders are open now. Additionally you can pre-order the Super Citizen version for $59.99 which includes a bunch of pack ins.
