The Plucky Squire Gets Free Challenge Mode Update On PC

A game with a reputation for its difficulty getting a story mode, or even just a patch to make things easier, is often met with a certain amount of discourse. But what about when a game known for being a bit too easy gets a hard mode? That’s exactly what happened yesterday on June 26th, when the adorable 2D/3D adventure game The Plucky Squire received a free update adding a new Challenge Mode to the game.

All Possible Futures, the developers of The Plucky Squire, announced the addition of Challenge Mode, along with some other details and updates, via their social media accounts. The thread details everything included, which we will cover below.

The Plucky Squire’s Challenge Mode is meant to test your skills with increased difficulty. This includes:

  • New and tougher enemies
  • Harder minigames
  • More challenging bosses
  • Some layout changes to levels

Along with the Challenge Mode, the developers are adding a new Iron Squire Mode. When undertaking an Iron Squire run of The Plucky Squire, players will have to contend with the difficulty of Challenge Mode as well as permadeath. That’s right, no continues, no second chances. Die once, and your save is wiped!

The devs have also added new achievements to the game, as well as the option to fast forward through dialogue.

The Plucky Squire Challenge Mode update is out now on PC, with the developers saying that console versions will be “coming soon”.

With the game’s 1st anniversary in a few months, it’s lovely to see the team at All Possible Futures continuing to improve the experience for fans and take real action when dealing with player feedback. Check out our The Plucky Squire Review to get our full thoughts on the base game.
