It’s been a big day for games announcements, especially given all the showcases going on. One of which featured at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase was Fading Echo.
Fading Echo is a new desert-punk action adventure game from the devs over at Emeteria. Published by New Tales, the game has you playing as One a young Legend setting off into the world of Corel to uncover the secrets of her past. In the game you control Æther, in order to bend the elements of the Echoverse, and the floating islands of Corel to your will. You can control water, lava, toxic waste and a substance called corruption. Each one has it’s own interations with you and the world around you, and you can combine them together to create chain reactions for combat and exploration.
When traversing, you can transform into water, as highlighted by the publishers New Tales as part of the press release “Dissolve into a droplet to slip through cracks and spread water across your surroundings, surge through tubes, crash down as a water bomb, or ascend in a vapor burst.”
From the trailer the combat looks to be a high speed, hack and slash affair, where you can afflict a variety of of status effects on enemies, presumably based on what liquid you throw at them. And the comic book style visuals were designed with the mechanics of the world in mind; "We didn't want to make a backdrop "” we wanted to make a world you can mess with," says Sylvain Sechi, Head of Studio at Emeteria. "Fading Echo is a game where creativity, curiosity, and a little recklessness are always rewarded."
No release date was given, but Fading Echo will be releases on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
