It’s been known that IO Interactive has been working on a James Bond game since 2020 and the game now finally has an official title, 007: First Light. The game, which will be poised as an origin story for Bond, will follow him as he earns the rank of 007.

James Bond remains a popular IP and the franchise’s impact on gaming is substantial due to GoldenEye being a landmark title in the shooter genre for consoles. However due to some later games not performing well critically or commercially there hasn’t been a James Bond game for 13 years with the last being 007: Legends in 2012.
Mostly known for the Hitman franchise, IO Interactive seems like a great pick to helm a franchise about an international assassin, although James Bond and agent 47 are stark contrasts when it comes to personality. It’ll be interesting to see if IO takes a similar approach to their excellent world of assassination trilogy or tries to create an original gameplay style for the 007: First Light.
Back in October of last year IO talked about how they plan on making 007 a trilogy, much like its latest Hitman trilogy.
"So it's not a gamification of a movie," studio CEO Hakan Abrak said at the time. "It's completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future."
No date is set for first light yet but a gameplay reveal looks to be coming this week, likely at Summer Game Fest according to the official X account for the game. I personally can’t wait as this game has been one on my radar for some time.
