If, like me, you've checked out a number of Nintendo 64 classics via Nintendo Switch Online, you'll know that controls for many titles simply haven't aged well. Many of the Nintendo 64's greatest games were designed to be played with its iconic controller, but there will be some modern gaming hands which struggle with the now dated control schemes.
Fortunately, Nintendo is adding new features to Nintendo Switch Online allowing players to customise their controls schemes, rewind gameplay and toggle a CRT filter. The new features arrive on June 5 alongside the Switch 2's launch.
Nintendo 64 Switch Online new features
Some of these features will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, with rewind and the CRT toggle exclusive to the upcoming hardware. Customisable controls will be available for both Switch and Switch 2

Rewind
Adapting to older titles can be frustrating experience for new and returning players. Whether it's a sharp turn sliding down an ice slope on Mario 64, missing a putt in Mario Golf or re-rolling a dice in Mario Party (you cheat!), Switch 2 will offer a new rewind feature allowing players to roll back to where they need to.

CRT filter
There will forever be a nostalgic love for a CRT filter, but for some who grew up on HD screens it can look a little too old school. There will be now be the option to filter the CRT filter on and off.

Customisable controls
The new update will also allow you map your controls to better suit modern devices, be it your Joy-Cons or Switch Pro Controller. A sample from Lylat Wars was shown in today’s trailer

These are very welcome additions to Nintendo 64 classics via Switch Online. A full list of N64 classics is listed on Nintendo's website. For those of you picking up a Switch 2 on launch next week, this is something extra to look forward to alongside Mario Kart World.
