Another message in a bottle has washed up on our shores, with details of the upcoming Season 16 of Rare’s swashbuckling multiplayer game, Sea of Thieves.
In the latest episode of Sea of Thieves News uploaded to the game’s official YouTube channel, we got a bunch of new details of what’s coming as part of Season 16, titled Reapers Rule. Beginning on May 22nd, with a focus on the Reaper’s Bones Trading Company, players can expect an overhaul similar to that of the Hunter’s Call in Season 15.
Season 16 brings Reapers Voyages that will test a crew’s navigational skills and combat prowess as they sail under the banner of the ruthless Captain Flameheart. This would appear to give players the option of improving their standing with the Trading Company through PvE-oriented content.
But players are not without assistance, you’ll just have to give them a hand first! Across the islands of the Sea of Thieves, skeletons loyal to Captain Flameheart can be found buried under the sand. Dig them up to have them join your crew, fighting off enemies as well as helping carry your plunder back to the ship!

The most explosive addition coming to the Sea of Thieves in Season 16 is a new invention from the Reapers: the portable Cannon of Rage! This portable cannon can be positioned in many places on deck, allowing for more versatility during combat. However, crews will want to be careful. If the Cannon of Rage takes too much damage or overheats, it will violently explode, so handle with care.

Season 16 of Sea of Thieves will come with its usual free unlocks as part of the game’s Plunder Pass, as well as stock updates at some of the in-game shops. The Pirate Emporium will also be having a sale, so get your Ancient Coins ready, or if your chests are looking a bit empty, you can pick the Sting Tide Eye of Reach for free!

That’s all the Sea of Thieves Season 16 details we got, but that’s not all we learned. The new Sea of Thieves artbook, titled the Artwork of Piracy, will be available worldwide on May 20th and features artwork from across the game’s 7-year voyage. The e-book version of the Heart of Fire novel is free to claim until June 8th.

Finally, there is a new haul of Twitch Drops coming on May 23rd, requiring players to watch 6 hours of participating streamers to unlock all 8 items!
We won’t have to wait long before the start of Season 16, Reapers Rule, so be sure to grab any last catches from Season 15.
