After accidentally leaking the Mafia: The Old Country last month, we now have official confirmation from 2K that it is indeed dropping on August 8th. During today’s Pax East gameplay reveal of the game where we saw a new trailer as well as loads of other information.
The new trailer shows off the game’s new stealth mechanic as well as the gun play that will be present in the latest entry to the gangster franchise. The Old Country will also be heading back to the series roots with a much more linear experience compared to Mafia 3’s more open world gameplay.
During the announcement we also got some comments from Hangar 13’s President Nick Baynes who described Mafia: The Old Country as a “focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay.”
That focus on storytelling and authentic era immersion will likely be music to fans ears. We don’t see this era of history covered too much and the Mafia series has always done a good job of capturing the feeling of what it would have been like back in that time period of the early 1900s when gangsters seemingly ruled the country of Italy and later New York and other American cities.

Baynes continued saying, “That focus allows us to deliver a story that’s gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional. Embracing early 1900s era Sicily, this is a mafia origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi’s crime family.”
Indeed Hangar 13 and 2K are really hammering home the narrative that Mafia: The Old Country will be very linear and story driven. David Ismailer President of 2K added: “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments. We’re excited to offer a game like Mafia: The Old Country in our portfolio, and to provide a linear highly-polished narrative experience that can easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love and engage with on a more consistent basis.”
There is no multiplayer meaning Mafia: The Old Country is strictly a single player experience, and based on the comments provided today will likely be a bit on the shorter end. Personally, that suits me just fine. Also indicative of this may be the games surprising price point.
$50 Price Point Is Perfect
In addition to the trailers today we also got a confirmation of the price point Mafia: The Old Country will launch at.
