The Ring Magazine has announced a new boxing game is in development, although it’s not something many expected. Boxing had its first notable game in many years when Undisputed – developed by Steel City Interactive – launched last year and although it was a solid attempt, it left a lot to be desired by fans.
The Ring is going with a different approach however as they’re hiring Japanese studio Dimps, who’s president is Takashi Nishiyama for a Boxing game featuring original characters rather than a simulation fighter with established boxers.
Together with legendary Japanese video game designer Takashi Nishiyama, The Ring is proud to announce a forthcoming boxing game featuring original characters.

It’s unknown whether the gameplay will be something like a traditional fighting game or perhaps even something arcade style like Ready 2 Rumble Boxing as development hasn’t gone in deep yet.
Takashi Nishiyama is well known for being the creator of both Street Fighter and Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, two of the most influential fighting games ever. Outside of that, Dimps is also known for designing the combat for Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V as well as other fighting games like Dragon Ball Z Budokai.

As a boxing fan and fighting game fan, the prospect of something like this excites me so I can’t wait to see more on it. The game is likely still a ways off as development hasn’t gotten out of the concept phases but it’s something that’ll ill keep my ear to the ground about.
