We’re here in the third area of Act 1 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Ancient Sanctuary. If you’ve been following along with our previous area guides then you know the drill. This guide will help you find the collectible items within the Ancient Sanctuary. There are only 2 here, 1 paint cage and 1 journal. Let’s get into it!

Journal – Expedition 63
Location: Giant Bell Alley
You might actually notice this before you get to the Giant Bell Alley rest point, but we will use it for reference. From the rest point backtrack slightly into the area with the giant shield enemy that is patrolling around. From where he is head to the right and you will see a larger opening with a big rock formation in the middle. You will also notice the journal laying there.
Paint Cage
Location: Giant Bell Alley
The paint cage is actually more or less in the same area as the journal above. If you aren’t at the journal return to the exact area where the journal is. As soon as you enter the area look to the left to find the first lock to shoot up on the rocks.
The second lock can be found in behind the center rock formation. Look in behind the pillars and you will notice the lock to shoot.
The third lock is slightly hidden. Look to your right from the previous lock and you will see some boxes. Shoot the bigger box to break it and also unveil the third and final lock. This will unlock the paint cage, however the cage is actually not in this area. It is in a cliff above you.
Leave this little area and as soon as you do hang an immediate left into a very narrow path between some trees.
Follow the path and drop down the rope. You will then see a bunch of platforms to jump on which you will need to do to get up to the cliff where the paint cage was. Do so and then follow the path to grab the item that is now in the paint cage’s place.
And that’s all she wrote for the Ancient Sanctuary. It’s a shorter area and these are bound to get more clustered with collectibles as we move along. We will have all the guides you need for Clair Obscur below as we continue to work through the game. Enjoy!
