By now, I think its safe to say that the messaging of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been all over the place. Nintendo haven't been able to control the messaging of various aspects, no less the console, its games and pricing.
The pricing of the console and the varying prices of Switch 2 games has been something gamers have struggled to understand, with Mario Kart World costing a lot more than Donkey Kong Bananza.
Nintendo revealed at the Switch 2 announcement that Switch 2 Edition games would incur a fee but now we know how much some of these upgrades will cost, courtesy of the Nintendo UK and Ireland websites, though NA prices are yet to be confirmed:
- Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: £7.99 / €9.99
- Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: £7.99 / €9.99
- Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV: £16.99 / €19.99
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World: £16.99 / €19.99
We did already know that Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will get the Zelda upgrades as part of their membership.

The driving reason for the discrepancy will be the additional content with Mario Party and Kirby, compared to what is offered for the Zelda titles. Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 Edition will include Jamboree TV, with Kirby including the new story, Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, the Zelda Switch 2 Editions offer little more than technical enhancements like increased resolution and frame rates.
There is a much bigger conversation about the value of Switch 2 games. But with the high price for a console, the accessories and paying fees for Switch 2 Edition upgrades, the price of admission to Nintendo's new console will not be affordable to many.
