One of the year’s most anticipated games of the year appear to have leaked its own release date. Today 2K announced that they will be revealing more details about Mafia: The Old Country at PAX East on May 8th. However when uploading that announcement onto the games steam page they appear to have accidentally posted the release date of August 8th.
The Mob's Got A Leak
Up until earlier today the Steam page for Mafia: The Old Country simply gave a 2025 release window with nothing more specific. However, on the Spanish Steam page, as first spotted by videotechuk_ on X it briefly showed the August 8th date. Also, the page featured an apparent press release about the release date, which of course hasn’t been formally announced just yet. That part of the announcement has since been removed.
The since removed part of the release said:
Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025. Pre-order now for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and stay tuned to the official Mafia website for more information.

This is technically not official since they didn't outright announce it, so take it with a grain of salt if you want, but considering where this was posted it is likely legitimate.
Mafia: The Old Country will be the first new game in the Mafia series since 2016. Since then, the company has released remakes of the first and second game to positive fanfare. The Old Country will take players back to Sicily in the early 1900’s.
2K’s parent company, Take-Two has a busy year lined up with Mafia: The Old Country, Borderlands 4 and Grand Theft Auto VI all planned for a 2025 release. If this date is correct that would give the company 3 of the biggest games of the year presumably back-to-back-to-back in the latter half of 2025. The company also released Civilization VII earlier this year.
This feels like a good spot for Mafia to release, it's just unfortunate to have come out this way. I for one am very excited to see more of Mafia: The Old Country and join the mob.
