Last night was the UK’s biggest celebration of video games, with the 21st Video Game BAFTAs taking place at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. There was a diverse range of games taking home big prizes, but the biggest winner of the night was Astro Bot which received five awards including the big one, Game of the Year 2024.
Alongside Astro Bot’s successes, there were awards for smaller games including three British developed titles:
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, loved in our 9/10 review scored the Technical Achievement prize
- Still Wakes the Deep which we scored 8.5/10 in our reviewreceived the award for Best New IP
- and the adored indie Thank Goodness You’re Here walked away with Best British Game
Customary to any video game awards show of the last 12 months Balatro picked up a prize, winning the award for Debut Game.
Astro Bot
Beating out competition from other the nominees – Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Helldivers 2, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Thank Goodness You’re Here – Astro Bot was awarded the most lucrative award on the night.

Astro Bot has been collecting award after award since its launch in late-summer 2024, including GOTY awards here at Gamer Social Club, the DICE Awards, and probably the industry’s most lucrative GOTY, The Game Awards.
Collecting the prize at The BAFTAs was the game’s Director Nicolas Doucet, who dedicated the award to developers who “inspired others to join the industry”. It’s an incredible achievement for a game that we gave a rare GSC 10/10 in our Astro Bot review where we called it “a love letter to PlayStation’s history and honestly even gaming as a whole”.
