Supergiant Games, developers of Bastion, Pyre and the Roguelite phenomenon Hades, confirmed today in a Nintendo Creator’s Voice interview that Hades 2 will be a Nintendo Switch 2 console exclusive on launch.
The video, posted on the Nintendo of America Youtube channel, features members of Supergiant Games discussing the studio and it’s growth from 2 members making Bastion into the studio it is now. Hades 2 is their first sequel, following on from the incredibly successful Hades (which also launched as a Nintendo Switch console exclusive) and follows the story of Melinoë trying to overcome the Titan of Time, Kronos, to save the underworld and her family.
Both the first Hades and Hades 2 enjoyed a stint of Early Access on PC, where players could give feedback on gameplay and balance before launching in full on PC and Nintendo Switch consoles. The video doesn’t mention the original Switch console in the announcement, and with the conversation at the start around focusing on 60fps and performance there’s a chance it may only release on the Switch 2. There’s also no date for the release, with the end title screen stating that more information will arrive later this year.
Hades 2 has been in early access on Steam since the 6th of May 2024, and recently dropped it’s Warsong update in February, including the Final Confrontation on the surface. As part of the notes for that announcement Supergiant Games confirmed a 3rd major update will be coming in the next few months and said of it’s launch date “Note it’s still too early to share our plans beyond that, including when our v1.0 launch will be”.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on Thursday, June 5th with a host of new games and old being confirmed at the Switch 2 Direct last week. Hades 2 is the third new 3rd party console exclusive to be confirmed after The Duskbloods, developed by FromSoftware and Survival Kids, developed by Konami.
