One of the most legendary franchises in all of gaming is about to get a new entry. Announced today by developer Jagex, Runescape: Dragonwilds is the latest entry in the long running RuneScape series and its coming in Spring of 2025 to early access.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be a co-op open world survival crafting game set within the RuneScape universe on the forgotten continent of Ashenfall. Dragons have awoken in Ashenfall and players will need to gather, craft and wield their powerful magic spells in typical RuneScape fashion. Dragonwilds will run on Unreal Engine 5. The game will also feature light RPG elements and of course RuneScape lore. Dragonwilds will be playable with up to 4 people but can be played solo as well.

A Familiar, New World
While the world of Ashenfall will be new to players of the RuneScape series, players familiar with the franchise will still recognize many aspects of the setting. Ashenfall will feature 2 regions and five unique biomes at launch. Jagex hasn’t world out more being added post launch. Despite being a new continent fans will likely find a lot of familiarity in the world including some locations that will resemble areas in RuneScape such as a certain famous castle.
Monsters in Dragonwilds will also have a familiar feeling to veterans, just with a bit of a twist. You will see your typical rats, dragons, cows and other creatures, however because of the magic in Ashenfall these creatures will be warped into strange versions of themselves. They will also be fused with plants, thorns and other pieces of nature.
While no specific date has been given just yet for its release, a Spring 2025 window has been given. The game will launch on Steam into Early Access when the time comes. You can wishlist the game now and you can tune in to Twitch at 12pm April 15 for a special deep dive into the game.
