Monster Hunter Wilds has so much to learn when it comes to getting good at the game. Making sure you have the right armor, right weapon and more when fighting some of the behemoths in the game. After putting close to 50 hours in Monster Hunter Wilds, I discovered a few things to pass on to those players that are just getting started and the ones who didn’t know. Here a few tips for you use on your journey through the Forbidden lands in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Disable Auto Sheath

This will allow keep your weapon from being sheath in the middle of a fight. I didn't discover this until after I had played through most of the game. I would attack and destroy an open wound and then my weapon would be sheathed. So, make sure if you don't want that to happen turn auto sheath off.
Toggle "Focus Mode" On

This allows you to toggle "˜Focus mode" with just one click of the button (Left Trigger-Xbox/L2-PS5) instead of holding it. This gives you the freedom of not having to holding down the button when looking for scratches or open wounds on the monster you're fighting.
Use The Training Area

Monster Hunter Wilds has 14 different weapons to chose from, each offering a different style of play. The training area is in the very back end of the main base camp. Take sometime in the beginning of the game to practice using the different weapons. Discover the difference between the Great sword and the long blade. Try the hammer or the lance to see which fits your playstyle.
Leather & Chainmail

Talk to your smitty/Gemma and utilize the Leather amor and chainmail. These two armors may not be the best at defense, but they are useful in other ways. The leather armor helps with gathering materials like herbs, mushrooms and other things used to make healing and consumables. Equipping the whole set increases your botanist skill level and the more you use them the level will increase. The chainmail armor is best used when mining for rocks or bones. Equipping the full set increases your geology skill, so you can find rare bones or crystals.

Eat Before You Hunt

Monster Hunter Wilds has some good-looking food, and this food gives you buffs on your hunt. You can grill food at your tent, pop up tent or on the go with your portable grill. You'll have two different versions on food that you can use, rations and raw meat. You obtain rations from the palicos in the camp, these can be used to grill whole meals that will give you buffs.
With rations you get meat, fish and veggies, and they increase your stamina plus 150 and health plus 50 for 30 minutes. The ration you chose will also give you a plus to a certain attribute.
Meats gives a plus 2 to attack, fish increases defense by 4 and veggies increase you defense by 2 and elemental resistance by 3. Also, as you get further into the game you will gain access to other ingredients that will add more time to the duration of the effects.

Raw meat is obtained by killing the ceratonoth and dalthydons. Raw meat while not to be confused with rations is grilled by you. An animation will start, and you will pull the meat out and hold it over the grill. You will then place the meat on the grill, here is where you must pay attention, because the meat will change color; meaning it has been cooked and now is the time to remove the meat from the grill. If removed on time it will give you a perfect well-done steak, if not you will get a burnt steak.
Well done steak allows you to restore your stamina and health during gameplay and you can carry up to 5 pieces in your pouch. If you so happen to burn your meat, it can still be useful. Burnt meat will restore your stamina and you can carry up to 10 in your pouch.

Grab Everything
One mistake I made was I stopped grabbing mushrooms, bugs and other items as I was playing through the game. This caused me to not have certain items I needed in a fight. So, if I can offer one piece of advice, pickup everything. You can always sale what you don't need and remember to empty your pouch with unnecessary items when you return to camp, or you are in a pop upcamp.
The Gather Button
You don't have to continuously press the gather button to pickup the materials or carve a monster carcass. Simply pressing and holding down the button will gather all the materials or carve the monster.Â
Auto Crafting
From your tent or pop-up tent you choose items that will be auto crafted. Items like potions, mega potions, shock traps and more. So, as you gather materials and items as you travel through the forbidden lands, these items and consumables will be crafted for you.

Hopefully these tips help you on your beginning playthrough of Monster Hunter Wilds. This is truly and amazing game filled so much content. Good luck Hunters!!
