One of the lead creators of the popular Call Of Duty Zombies mode, Jason Blundell is forming a new studio within PlayStation Studios. The new studio, Dark Outlaw Games is currently staffing up.
Blundell announced the new studio and partnership today on a podcast with Jeff Gertsmann, saying they will have more to share in the future. Blundell’s previous studio, Deviation Games closed back in March of 2024 before releasing their debut game, in partnership with PlayStation. Blundell left Deviation back in 2022.
“I’ve had the amazing opportunity to create a new studio within PlayStation Studios for Sony,” Blundell said.
“The studio is called Dark Outlaw. We’ve been working away in the shadows for a while, when we’ve got something to talk about we’ll step out into the light.”
“It’s such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio, Sony doesn’t start up first-party studios all the time, so to have that privilege is humbling.”

No other information was given beyond the partnership with PlayStation and that Blundell is heading the team and will be the studio director. Blundell says the team has been working “for a little bit of time”. It will be curious to see how much of Dark Outlaw is former Deviation team members and what kind of game it will be. With Blundell’s experience it’s a safe bet it’s a shooter of some kind.
The shooter genre is one that PlayStation has been sorely lacking for years. With the recent success of Helldivers 2 they have finally cracked the code it seems. Deviation’s game was a AAA live service shooter so we might simply see something similar here.
