Split Fiction released last week and is already off to a very strong start in sales. Developer Hazelight Studios have announced that within the first 48 hours of launch, the game has sold one million copies.

Over the weekend, the title peaked on Steam with 259k concurrent players, far surpassing any game that Hazelight has ever created. Previous title, and GOTY winner at the 2021 The Game Awards, It Takes Two all time peak highest Steam concurrent count is less than a third, peaking at 71k.
It’s an excellent start for the latest co-op adventure from many people’s favourite no-nonsense studio head, Josef Fares. Fares, to the pleasure of many gamers, recently announced that he would never create a game with microtransactions included. Whilst the sales milestone is a certainly accolade, the player count for Split Fiction will be a lot higher given that each copy sold includes a free cross-play friends pass, allowing a player to play with someone who owns the game – albeit without the ability to earn any achievements or trophies.
