Members of the Xbox Insiders Programme have reported that their consoles are being put back to factory settings after the most recent update went live.
The programme allows members to try updates before they go out to the public as a form of beta testing, and it is broken up into “tiers”; the higher the tier, the earlier, and possibly buggier the experience. Members of the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead tiers have said that the latest console update is removing their Xbox profiles, console settings and Quick Resume data. It also looks like the update has been made mandatory, and cannot be skipped.

This sort of issue has been incredibly rare in the 15 years the Xbox Insiders Programme has been active. The official Reddit is full of people talking about the update, with one member describing it as the “biggest bug I’ve ever seen release in all my years of being in the preview program”.
While users can re-sign into their profiles and manually change back their settings, anyone impacted will lose time (and need to remember their passwords, including to any media apps).
Xbox has yet to make an official statement.
You can be sure the GSC team will keep an eye out for any updates on the situation, so check back regularly to stay up to date!
