Monster Hunter Wilds has blown past one million concurrent players on Steam, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down over the weekend!

At the time of this update, there are currently over 1.23 million hunters out in the wilds.
Keep checking back to see what concurrent player count Capcom’s latest release can reach within its first 24 hours.
Update ends, original story below.
While the hunt has only just begun, Monster Hunter Wilds is currently the 2nd most played game on Steam! Capcom’s latest entry in the Monster Hunter series, and the follow up to 2018’s hugely successful Monster Hunter World, hasn’t even been out for 24 hours and has already seen nearly one million hunters enter the wilds at the same time on Steam alone!
According to SteamDB, MH: Wilds hit a concurrent player count of over 987,000 and it hasn’t dropped back below 900,000 since it’s release. The game also reached over 340,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, and has stayed pretty close to that number since its release.
To try and put this into perspective, Monster Hunter Worlds reached a concurrent peak player count of 334,000, just over a third of what it’s successor has achieved!

For some, this may come as no surprise, as MH: Wilds is without a doubt the first of the most anticipated releases of 2025. The success of Monster Hunter World is rightly credited with making the series popular with the Western market, something Capcom had struggled to do, but Monster Hunter Wilds is making good on that hard work.
However, the release has not proven to be smooth sailing, with the game’s Steam overall review score sitting at “Mixed”. Looking through the player reviews it seems as though the main complaints are with the game’s optimisation, with some reporting the game crashing when entering certain areas. This disappointment is compounded by the fact that players reported excellent performance during the Monster Hunter Wilds Beta tests. Hopefully the team at Capcom can get to work fixing some of the issues, and that review score can begin to climb.

While these player numbers are impressive for any game’s launch and for the Monster Hunter series, it becomes truly astounding when stacked up against the other most popular games on Steam. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently the second most played game on Steam, just behind Valve’s own juggernaut Counter-Strike 2!
It is also the only full price game in the top five most played, retailing at $69.99/£59.99, beating free-to-play giants like DOTA 2, Marvel Rivals, and Apex Legends. We will have to wait and see if the game can break its current record over the coming days, as more players join the hunt.
Much like the many thousands of hunters out in the wilds, I imagine the team at Capcom will be celebrating the game’s success with a hearty and well earned banquet!
