Update, 22.02.25:
With the release of the latest patch, Update 1.2.3, the bug affecting the location of Ofryc in Dawntreader should now be resolved.
Update ends, original story below.
It seems the ‘Dawntreader’ side-quest in Avowed is bugged for some people.
Avowed is about to become available to everyone from 18 February. And whilst a lot of people are waiting eagerly, the early access folk have had the chance to play since 13 February. They’ve been exploring every nook and cranny of The Living Lands; enjoying its fun combat and glorious surroundings. And with great reviews coming through (we gave it a 9.5!) it seems Obsidian’s latest, is going to be a hit.

Dawntreader Side Quest
One of the side-quests you come to early on, once you reach The Living Lands proper, is titled ‘Dawntreader’ where you must find a team on an expedition in an Eothasian temple. In there, you will meet a dubious ‘Oracle’ and uncover some intriguing lore along the way that might set up some interesting stuff later in the game.
However, it seems for some folk, that the side-quest can’t be completed, with many gamers reporting that the quest can’t be ‘handed in’ at the end of the mission. Once you’ve successfully gotten out of the Eothasian temple and dealt with the Oracle (however you chose to do that), you are tasked with “Find Someone to Report to at the Embassy”. The Embassy is in the ‘Administration District” of Paradis, the first major town you encounter.

You should be looking for ‘Ofryc’ to hand in with, but he’s not there. The Embassy is clearly marked on your map, but your quest marker is hovering over the Apothecary’s location in Paradis. Ofryc isn’t there either, in fact, the in-game marker seems to think Ofryc is 10,500+ (steps / metres?) underground.
This means that you cannot speak to him to turn in the quest leaving it unfinishable. This also means that not only are you missing out on XP and any rewards for completing the mission, but the achievement for completing all side quests ‘Pentiment’ is unobtainable.

Avoiding and Fixing
The deductions of the early access community seem to think the bug occurs if you accept the quest via general exploring and happening upon the Eothian temple as a matter of course, rather than accepting the side-quest from Ofryc outside the embassy. You can find the quest by interacting with the two NPCs on ‘Pilgrim’s Path’ just North of the Northern Farms Fast-Travel Beacon (check the screenshot). So if you’ve not accepted the mission, head to Ofryc in Paradis to try avoid the bug.
Don’t fret though, many players have taken to Reddit to discuss this issue and have also flagged it with Obsidian developers who are aware of the issue and a tracking it, with the hope to have a fix for it ASAP.
The tweet below is from Berto Ritger who is a Region Director and Senior Area Designer at Obsidian who acknowledges that Obsidian are on it.
Yeah, we've got this tracked internally now and will get a fix out ASAP. Sorry you're dealing with this, hope you enjoyed the quest up until then ???

I’m experiencing this bug myself and thought I was losing my mind. Fretting between, “have I missed some sort of subterranean shaft?” to “it must be bugged” I wasn’t sure what was going on. I’m glad it’s been confirmed to be an issue by other folk, and hopefully Obsidian will get it patched soon!
