It's here, we finally know when South Of Midnight is being released. During today’s Xbox Developer Direct it was revealed that South of Midnight will release Xbox Series X/S and Steam on April 8th.

South of Midnight is the 3rd game from Compulsion Games. Compulsion also made Contrast and We Happy Few. South of Midnight is a third person action adventure game set in the American deep south. The game features a unique art direction as it tells a dark modern folktale that is driven by a rich narrative. South of Midnight also features deep fantasy mythos, with gameplay themed around “Magical Weaving” power. Which will be used in combat, traversal and puzzles.

In South of Midnight you will play as Hazel Flood, as she tries to rescue her mother after disaster has hit her hometown. After that life changing event, Hazel is called upon to become a ‘Weaver”, a magical bender of bonds and spirits. With these new powers and abilities, Hazel will have to confront and defeat numerous dangerous creatures; as she unweaves her family’s history.

As we saw from the South of Midnight’s documentary, the developers at Compulsion took so much care and time in making this game. While being based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, they took several trips to the south to make this experience as authentic as possible. They brought in world renowned storyteller Donna Washington to tell stories to help immerse the team in southern folklore. Visiting Nashville and working with southern singers from different regions, like Kelsey Crews. Making sure that Hazel is being brought to life by a southern born voice actress Adriyan Rae and mocap artist Nona Parker Johnson. Compulsion truly meant for this game to be a love letter to the deep south.

I’m super excited and can't wait to get my hands on South of Midnight. This game has had my interested since we saw the first teaser trailer shown at the Xbox showcase June 11, 2023. I can’t believe the release date is just around the corner.
