The game industry is about to go into overdrive with many high profile releases in the next few weeks. One of the biggest of the bunch is 2K's Civilization VII and today it was announced the game has gone gold ahead of its February 11th release date.
"We've struck gold," the post reads. "[Civilization 7] has officially gone gold - we're ready to hit shelves on February 11."
Civilization VII has been a long time coming with the last game in the long running franchise having released back in 2016 on PC. It was later ported to console in 2019 so it's safe to say it's been awhile for all the Civilization fans. Luckily for everyone VII is launching simultaneously on both PC and consoles so players on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation won't need to wait. It is also Steam Deck verified.
Incase you've never heard of or played a Civilization game, the series is a strategy game where you start as a historic leader, such as Lafayette, and take control of many of the worlds biggest powers in a race to defeat other nations. Whether that defeat is by conquering with your military, winning an economic victory or perhaps you go the Science or cultural way. Regardless of what path you take you must build your empire strategically or risk defeat.
While going gold these days doesn't mean what it once used to, it's still an important milestone for studios and a way to celebrate a game being "done". It remains to be seen how much more work will be done in the next few weeks to make for a day 1 patch.
Players who decided to pre-order one of the games more expensive deluxe (like myself) or collectors editions can get to play the game 5 days early on February 6th.
