Developer Rebel Wolves have just wrapped up their first live stream on Twitch, revealing The Blood of Dawnwalker; a dark fantasy, narrative driven “epic adventure”, set in medieval Europe, with a supernatural twist.
From the Director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Â Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, The Blood of Dawnwalker is the first chapter of a brand new third-person, role playing saga, so is the promise of future titles in this new world. It will be a complete single-player experience with no microtransactions.
Speaking on the opening of Rebel Wolves as a studio, Tomaszkiewicz spoke about being able to take risky decisions by having independence and artistic freedom.

Discussing their vision for the new title on the Twitch stream, Tomaszkiewicz, speaking with Narrative Director, Jakub Szamalek, they referenced the promise and value of “old-school computer RPGs” of Fallout 2 as an inspiration. They commented on players getting easily distracted away from the main story, so they want players to remain invested and “on the edge of their seats”.
Their ambition was to take that source and combine it with “bleeding edge tech and dynamic, fast-paced combat”, alongside the total freedom to make your own choices and explore your own way. Interestingly, they talk about the “sense of urgency” and the impact of time, something they say isn’t really explored in videogames. They noted that there will be a different gameplay loop during the day versus the gameplay loop during the night.
Here’s a sneak peek at the gameplay of The Blood of Dawnwalker:
Focused on the protagonist’s beginnings, Coen, is a young and emotional guy, who becomes a Dawnwalker, someone who can wield dark magic during the day, but he can be killed by anyone. At night he faces more difficult enemies and can use some vampiric abilities to fight and explore the world. He’s trying to take on a horde of Vampires who have taken over the world, led by their leader Brencis, an incredibly powerful vampire.
But, he only has 30 days and 30 nights of in-game time to succeed in saving his family from the vampires. When you complete quests and progress, time moves forward. Although the game is a sandbox, it’s a “narrative sandbox”. The Blood of Dawnwalker is focused on ‘narrative freedom’, rather than ‘creative freedom’. You won’t be wasting time doing side quests; you’ll be doing quests, and the quests you choose give you a unique play experience different from other players.
A full gameplay reveal will be coming in the summer. A release date has not been confirmed as yet. Bandai Namco will be publishing the game on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles.
