We all have one, don’t try and pretend you don’t: a great big pile of shame. That shame being, your video game backlog. All the games you said, “I’ll buy it on sale and play it when I am done with GTA 5“. But you never finished GTA 5, did you? I bet you never even played the GSC GOTY Astro Bot either. Shame.
Well it’s time, time to tackle the backlog of shame. I was recently inspired by Dazeel on X. Let me explain. Last year Dazeel went on a journey to not buy any new video games in 2024 and solely played his backlog. While I played Astro Bot, Dazeel played Ghostrunner 2 for the first time. While I did not envy his position at the time, I do envy his willpower.

This is probably the part where I make a speech and say I am going to do the exact same thing. I literally just told you I envy his willpower, not that I was gonna try to obtain said willpower. Fable, AC: Shadows, GTA 6, and Killing Floor 3 comes out this year. Come on people, get your head out of your ass. I’m human, not made of steel.
I will say, however, that despite the undoubted time I will inevitably sink in to those highly anticipated games, me and a fair amount of the Gamer Social Club team have a lot of games in the backlog that we want to tackle this year.
Over the course of 2025 me and the team want to share with you our experiences in tackling these games for the first time. If you see the title “Backlog Tackle”, then followed by a random video game, you will know its us… well… tackling our backlog. I don’t know how to make this more straight forward.
While I don’t know what the entire team’s backlog of shame looks like, I know mine far too well. So I’ve compiled a list of games I plan on tackling in the year 2025. At the end of the year I’ll do a new write up to update you on the over all success of this mission. Fingers crossed it doesn’t end in shame.

- Black Myth Wukong
I’m a big soulslike fan. I know, this isn’t exactly a souls game. But from what I hear, this game is non-stop boss battles. I already got it downloaded on my new Asus ROG and PC so I can be punished on the go non-stop.

2. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
We recently held our very first GOTY showcase and during this showcase I interviewed a lot of our team. We talked about our love for the games that won in each category and, spoiler alert, Indiana Jones won best action adventure. I editied the whole show, and let me tell you, keeping the Indiana Jones talk to a minimum was quite the task. Hearing everyones’ experience with it got me so hyped. I can’t wait to use it as a pallet cleanser before I dive in to Assassins Creed Shadows.
3. Silent Hill 2
Before Silent Hill 2 came out, our very own Russel Segui wrote a love letter to Silent Hill 2 and talked about it on our podcast. After hearing him talk about it being better than any of the Resident Evil Remakes in his eyes, I was sold. I immediately bought the game but had to put it down to tackle our coverage of Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred.
4. CyberPunk 2077
Here is the big one. The one I am not sure I can tackle in the year 2025 of our Lord. I picked up the game and all its content and have waited… and waited… and waited until all updates were out and the game is at peak playablity. I got an ASUS ROG to help me tackle side quests on the go so I am in a good position to actually squeeze it in to the year. The only question is, will this year as jam packed as it is, allow me to squeeze in the big of adventure?

5. ARMORED COREâ„¢ VI FIRES OF RUBICON
I was really excited for this game. But it came out amongst the likes of Starfield, BG3, MK1, and Lies of P. This game was an unfortunate casualty of one of the busiest Septembers in the gaming industry.
Its a small list, one that didn’t include a lot of other I’d like to play like Immortals of Aveum, Banishers Ghost of New Eden, Tekken 7, and oh so much more. Not to mention games I’d love to revisit. But that is the point of this series. To breathe new life in to games that are still worthy of our attention. I hope you all enjoy following us on this journey to tackle the backlog.
