Fortnite Getting First Person 5v5 Round Based Mode "Ballistic"

Epic is constantly working on ways to keep Fortnite fresh and competing with as many different types of games as possible, and today's announcement might just bring in even the most hardcore shooter fans.

Fortnite is getting a new mode called Ballistic, a 5v5 tactical round based mode similar to games such as Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six Siege. Ballistics will also be a change from typical Fortnite in the sense that it will be first person. The teams will be split between attackers and defenders with the goal of the attackers being to plant a Rift Point Device.

Rift Point Device

The new mode will be a best of 13 match with no building and no respawning. Firdt team to 7 wins. After 6 rounds the teams will switch sides so every match players will both defend and attack.

In typical Counter-Strike fashion you will start each match with limited resources. A starting Ranger Pistol and 800 Credits. Survive the round and keep your current gear. Die and you must gear up from scratch again.

As far as more specifics go, Ballistics mode is launching as an early access mode with only one lap, Skyline 10. Players can expect more maps over time as things get ironed out and player feedback is taken into account. The mode will also feature both ranked and unranked play.

Skyline 10 will be the lone map in Ballistics to start

Flex Gadgets

Similar to other games having specific classes Fortnite Ballistics mode will have specific gadgets players can choose from. At the beginning of each game players will get to select 1 of 5 gadgets. Once selected that will be the only gadget you can carry, and you can carry 2 of them per round. The 5 gadgets are:

  • Frag Grenade
  • Proximity Mine
  • Bubble Shield
  • Recon Grenade
  • Impulse Grenade

The frat grenade, proximity mine and bubble shield are pretty self explanatory. The recon grenade when used will mark all enemies even through walls allowing players to get the drop on them. Impulse grenades will launch everyone in the area, allies included, away. This can be used to launch allies up onto high above places.

For those wanting to jump into Fortnite Ballistics you won't have to wait long as the mode will launch worldwide (except Russia and South Korea) and on all platforms on December 11th.
