During the 2024 ‘PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted’ showcase, development studio Digital Sun and publisher 11 Bit Studios announced that Will, the enterprising orphan merchant from Rynoka who explores dungeons to retrieve artifacts which he then sells at his family shop, the Moonlighter, is returning in 2025 for another ‘Moonlighter’ adventure in the sequel titled ‘Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault’.
‘Moonlighter’, a top-down dungeon crawler action RPG with rogue-lite elements released to consoles, mobile, and PC in 2018 to positive reviews. The mix of shopkeeping by day and fighting through dungeons at night was a clear hit with gamers, resulting in over 2 million copies sold and DLC titled ‘Between Dimensions’ released a year later.

‘Moonlighter’s warm pixel-art graphics were easy to admire and for ‘The Endless Vault’, Digital Sun is mixing up the visuals by switching to an immersive, more detailed 3D isometric view that still keeps the fast and butter-smooth gameplay of the first installment.

Although seemingly straightforward narratively, ‘Moonlighter’ introduced some pretty mind-bending twists that won’t be spoiled here for folks who will undoubtedly play it for the first time after the announcement. For gamers who have already completed the first adventure, they can look forward to the sequel whisking Will away from his village where he will cross paths with new and returning characters as he battles his way through dungeons (and tries to maximize profits while running his shop) as he attempts to return home.

When will you be able to decide between calling it quits and leaving the dungeon with a guaranteed haul of artifacts or running the risk of losing it all by delving deeper into the more dangerous depths of the dungeon in search of more valuable loot? There’s no exact release date yet but ‘Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault’ will be available next year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and is available to wishlist now on Steam.
