If you’re a Nintendo fan of any kind you’re probably aware of the war they seem to be waging on Switch emulation this year. From YUZU to Ryujinx and many in-between(Suyu seems a ballsy name). What you may not be aware of is when YUZU was taken down by Nintendo earlier this year, the 3DS emulator Citra got taken with it as the developers were one in the same. It would appear a new 3DS emulator is looking to possibly fill that gap as Citra was the gold standard in 3DS emulation.

The above post on Twitter/X was made by the official account for the Azahar Emulator. This emulator is combination effort from the now discontinued LIME3DS and PabloMK7fork emulators. The account also posted a new Discord, Website and Github page from the same account in a different post which you can see below.

They posted on there official Github page the following “Our mission is to create the definitive platform for future development of Citra, a discontinued 3DS emulator. We hope you will join us on this journey. More information will be released as time passes. For now, work continues behind the scenes.”
It’s unclear how long this new emulator has been in development or how long it will be til a playable build will be available. I’m also unsure what could happen given that these is technically a fork of Citra. When Nintendo took down Yuzu, it took ownership and one of the terms of the settlement was for the developers to stop development on all emulators. They were the developers behind Citra, however as near as I can see Nintendo didn’t take ownership of Citra so this development team should be in the clear I would think(Disclaimer: Not a lawyer here so don’t get mad if I’m wrong).
I will keep you posted on news of this new emulator once we either have a release date or the release itself.
