Metal Slug Tactics Launching Day One On Game Pass

The latest day one on both console and PC Game Pass launch is being reported to be Metal Slug Tactics, the spin off to the classic run and gun arcade game series from SNK. A small gameplay preview was also shown along with the announcement

Putting the game on Game Pass day one makes sense as this will be the franchise’s first entry in 15 years as the last release was Metal Slug XX back in 2009. So it could help build an audience as it wouldn’t be the first time a smaller game helped take off due to Gamepass.

SNK has entrusted Dotemu, the publisher who is behind the revivals of other classic franchises such as wonder boy and streets of rage to handle bringing Metal Slug back. Both Streets of Rage 4 as well as TMNT Shredder’s Revenge also launched on Game Pass and both games were quite successful overall. Metal Slug was never a crazy popular series but it maintained a very dedicated cult following and also has the distinction of being one of the few franchises from SNK that isn’t a fighting game.

While SNK’s fighting games are doing well at the moment, with there being much anticipation around Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves among fighting game fans, it does make sense to entrust Dotemu with bringing Metal Slug back given their current track record with retro revivals.

Metal Slug Tactics releases on November 5th 2024 and is also set to launch on PS4, PS5 and switch.
