Sega has had arguably the best year for publishers in all of gaming, and today the good times kept rolling as they announced that Sonic X Shadow Generations has topped a million in sales on it's release day.
The company sent out a press release today celebrating both the launch of the game as well as the sales milestone. This announcement comes on the heels of Sega/Atlus's newest IP Metaphor: ReFantazio also just released a few weeks ago and surpassed a million in sales a day after it's launch. Metaphor also appears to be a game of the year contender.

And while Sonic X Shadow Generations might not quite be in that discussion it is still quite good. In our own review we called it "an excellent game overall and this is an excellent package with excellent replay value and a sign that the future of Sonic will continue to be great as it has been the past few years".
Sonic as a series has seen a lot of highs and lows over its long existence but the franchise continues to persevere and may be in its best place in decades. With today's news it certainly appears to at the very least be near its peak in terms of financial success.
With a third Sonic movie on the way later this year, and Sega fully committed to its favourite speedy Hedgehog, it's safe to say that today's announcement will only further strengthen the publishers commitment to the series.
