Pocketpair Responds To Nintendo’s Lawsuit

Well, we all probably saw this coming. To recap, yesterday Nintendo, together with The Pokémon Company, posted on their website and social media accounts that they are suing Pocketpair for “patent infringement”. As would be expected, Pocketpair, the owners of Palworld, which is the game assumed to be related to the issue, has now responded via Twitter/X.

The part of Pocketpair’s statement that caught me off guard was “At this moment, we are unaware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing upon, and we have not been notified of such details.” I would think they would know the details, but keep in mind this lawsuit was filed in Tokyo, Japan. As an American, I’m unfamiliar with how these things work over there.

The details of exactly what patent Nintendo is referring to aren’t 100% clear however over on the Twitter account of Stephen Totilo he highlights, that in 2021 Nintendo did file a patent related to a game mechanic where monsters are caught with items.

Keep in mind that as of now, this is just an educated guess at best. We will keep you posted on further developments related to the lawsuit. Comment with your thoughts below
