Nintendo Announces It’s Suing Pocket Pair

On September 19th 2024 Nintendo has announced via it’s website, that as of September the 18th, 2024 it has filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair Developer and creator of the popular collect a monster game, Palworld. In a very brief statement on it’s website Nintendo say’s

“This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.”

The statement also mentions The Pokemon Company as a co defendant in their statement. The creators and developers of the #1 most profitable franchise of all time. According to Wikipedia the Pokemon franchise has grossed $98.8 billion dollars.

While writing this the community manager has already responded with a simple smile emoji. Which is, well, not the response you would expect.

Palworld launched in Early Access on Steam, and Preview on Xbox on January 18th, 2024. upon it’s launch it became extremely popular and while exact sale’s figure’s are unknown it hit number one on the Steam charts and hit a player peak of 2,101,867. It also launched into Xbox gamepass the same day an by all accounts has done extremely well there as well. We will keep you posted on any updates related to the lawsuit
