A year and 2 months later it has been announced that Street Fighter 6 has sold over 4 million units. This is quite a milestone and shows that fighting games are in a new age of popularity.

By comparison, the previous 2 entries in the series hadn’t managed to move this much in a year. Street Fighter V although it sold 7.4 million by the end of its life cycle, it had a slower start and didn’t pass 4 million until around 4 years in. Street Fighter IV, a game touted as bringing fighting games back from the dead in 2009 managed to sell 3.5 million within its 1st year.
What’s even more impressive however is that both Street Fighter IV and V had multiple rereleases at a reduced price. Street fighter 6 performing better this early without any kind of rerelease is very impressive to say the least as outside Mortal Kombat and super smash brothers, most fighting games don’t reach these kind of numbers in their early years.
Launching last year to widespread critical acclaim, Street Fighter 6 looks like it’ll have a long and healthy life cycle as it’s currently in the middle of it’s second round of DLC with Terry Bogard set to launch on September 24th, followed by the return of a fan favorite (or infamous character depending on your perspective) Elena and Mai Shiranui in winter and spring of 2025 respectively.
