Even as a new Harry Potter game launches today, Warner Brothers Discovery has its eye on expanding the franchise even further with a follow up to one of this generations biggest games, Hogwarts Legacy.
During an interview today at the Bank of America's 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels talked about the Harry Potter franchise's position in gaming. Today they launched Harry Potter Quidditch Champions, however the big story out of the interview was his statement about a follow up to last years Hogwarts Legacy.

"Obviously, a successor to "˜Hogwarts Legacy' is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road," Wiedenfels says. "So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here." (Thanks Variety)
This comes after WBD's latest game, Suicide Squad failed to meet expectations as Wiedenfels called the game a "miss". Hogwarts Legacy however was anything but. Earlier this year the company announced that Legacy had sold over 22 million copies in 2023. The idea that they'd want to make a sequel seemed like a safe bet.
The interesting part will be who develops it. Avalanche Studios had a big part to play in Legacy's development however they may now be busy on other projects. It could be a case where Portkey Games does it on their own.

While Quidditch Champions doesn't have quite the same amount of buzz around it WBD will hope it can regain them some momentum in the gaming space. Many fans were upset that Quidditch wasn't apart of Legacy so perhaps those fans will flock to Champions.
