Update: Ubisoft has sent a follow up email to affected users saying they understand how frustrating it is to have to restart a game you paid extra for just to get early access. To make up for this they have offered players 100 Ubisoft Connect Units for in game purchases as well as a special trinket for your ship.

Original Story: There's always a special feeling gamers get when they get a new release game on day 1. So much so that the industry has starting giving gamers early access to games for a premium price. Now how would you feel if that premium price you paid for Early Access meant nothing as you had to restart your game? Oof.

That's exactly what's happening with the PlayStation 5 version of Ubisoft's latest game, Star Wars Outlaws. The Gold edition of the game came out earlier this week, allowing users to buy the game and start it up before it's official release this Friday. However now due to a day 1 patch, Ubisoft is telling everyone on PlayStation to start a new save and start from scratch, essentially wiping out the early access that fans paid for. This is according to emails obtained by insider gaming.

As per the emails Ubisoft has suggested everyone to update to version 1.000.002 and start with a new save "to fully enjoy" the game. At first glance you might just say to yourself "I won't download it then" however the developers have warned that if players continue to play on the prior save, they "will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers".

For now this issue only seems to affect the PlayStation 5 version of the game and not the PC or Xbox versions.

This is without a doubt a tough feeling for those who have already invested countless hours into the campaign. It's bad enough when game breaking bugs and patches happen, it's even worse when you pay a premium for early access only to lose your progress.
