Capcom Profits Drop But Business “Outperforming” Expectations

Capcom has released their latest financial report for the quarter ending June 30th and despite the numbers looking bleak at first glance the company is more than happy with the results.

Capcom saw a 32.5% drop in net sales and a 46.4% drop in its operation income compared to the same time frame last year. However despite this drop the biggest reason being that last year during the same quarter saw the release of Street Fighter 6. This year Capcom did not release any major title during the quarter, explaining the drop.

Despite the drop Capcom has said that all business segments are outperforming expectations. This is due to their back catalog of games continuing to sell well, specifically the Monster Hunter series with both Monster Hunter World and its expansion Iceborne selling close to a million copies each in the quarter.

Monster Hunter Stories 2

Capcom had announced earlier in the year that the Monster Hunter series had surpassed 100 million in sales. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin also released on PlayStation 4 after earlier launches on PC and Nintendo Switch. Thanks to the release on PS4 the game has now sold 2 million units in its lifetime. Monster Hunter Wilds is the next game of the franchise expected sometime in 2025.

Capcom’s big release of 2024, Dragon’s Dogma 2, has continued to perform well according to the publisher as it has now crossed the 3 million lifetime mark. While sales appear to have slowed Capcom says it is in line with their expectations.

All of this means that Capcom is still projecting the same numbers it was expecting for its full fiscal year. Capcom has seen its profits grow 7 straight years and 11 years of operating income growth. We shall see if this can continue!
