Hypercharge Unboxed Went Viral Within Xbox Offices, Right Up To Phil Spencer

Hypercharge Unboxed has been a huge indie hit since it's debut on Xbox having sold 100k in its first month and going viral on social media platforms. Turns out social media wasn't the only place it was going viral.

Speaking a few days ago on our very own Gamer Social Club podcast, Joe Henson, creating gameplay and marketing director for Hypercharge Unboxed spoke on a variety of topics about his journey as a developer and the process and success of the game itself.

Hypercharge recently celebrated 100k in sales on Xbox

During the interview Henson revealed a fascinating story about how Hypercharge went viral within the Xbox offices making it all the way through the office and up to the top of the chain to Phil Spencer himself.

"I can’t go into the full details of the conversation we had some really nice conversations and meetings with Xbox one of them was with (ID@Xbox Director) Chris Charla."

"We had a meeting with some other people as well and every time whoever was in the meeting they were saying, and we’d ask questions as well, but they’d say you know that the amount of Buzz that was going on internally at Xbox they said it was crazy"

"Chris Charla was saying he was getting emails from everybody saying what’s happening this game’s come out of nowhere it’s blowing up what should we do and then it was just lots of people were apparently talking about the game so words it was being your word of mouth it was all being spoken about and eventually it got sent to Phil Spencer where he was like this game’s cool or what’s going on with game I can’t remember the exact thing that was said but we were told it got to Phil Spencer and he knows about the game"

Since those events took place the game has been seeing a much bigger push from Xbox marketing themselves on social media and being front page on the Xbox store itself.

"It's amazing to see how everybody was. We were just this sort of kind of unknown indie game, blows up, goes viral, everybody at Xbox interally talking about it and then it’s going all the way up to Phil Spencer and it’s just amazing. It's surreal"

Heartfelt stories like this are nice when they come along in the gaming space and it shows just how much power the fans can have. Let your voice be heard enough about that game you are playing and who knows, it might just catch the eye of Xbox brass.
