Another day, another round of rumours and insider reports that offer up a whole lot of speculation and not much else related to Xbox. This feels like a daily occurrence of insiders throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. It's tiring at this point.
Today's Xbox report came out from Tom Warren at The Verge about a supposed Halo Combat Evolved remaster/remake being in development and that at some point it was "considered" to be in development for PlayStation. Now I have no inside information on this, and quite frankly if I did it's so vague I wouldn't say I did. Remaking Halo Combat Evolved isn't something I'm interested in. You can play a pretty good version of it on current consoles in the Master Chief Collection. But if the idea of this game excites you, cool I hope it's true.

But let's talk about this report and what's got the internet abuzz, that it's being considered for PlayStation. First off Jez Corden from Windows Central says he's heard of no such thing (the PlayStation part anyway) so we already have one insider saying one thing and the other saying another. So which is it?
Secondly "considering" PlayStation? Stop and think for a second. How many things do you yourself consider in a day that you ultimately don't do. I considered laying in bed all day today until my daughter got in my face and said wake up Daddy. I considered calling into work today so I could spend time with said daughter. I considering not making lunch and buying it instead. I could go on and on. Point is, we consider a lot of things in our day to day lives that we don't end up doing. So that's hardly news.
Also there's no context at all. Did an intern pitch this and get laughed out? Did Phil Spencer think it before Matt Booty screamed at him? Who knows. All of this has lead to nothing but speculation and bantering amongst fans. Which hey is good for a website to get clicks, and it led to me writing this, so I guess thanks for the content? But beyond that what does it actually accomplish?
Part of me at this point thinks there's people inside these companies purposely leaking fake info just to see who will report it and how they do it.
There's also the timing of it all. Xbox is (pun intended) on the verge of it's yearly Showcase which happens on Sunday. Xbox just had a great game release in Hellblade 2 and this showcase is usually a time for happiness and celebration with the brand. Fans get excited, gamers look forward to what's coming out, and then this negativity gets dropped days before. The focus should be on the games and the positive news, and instead it's now on something that may or may not ever happen.

Now if it does happen? Like actual news? All bets are off. Talk about it, tell Xbox how wrong they are (or right if you feel that way). I don't care about that. I'll be the first person to criticize them, or any other company if they actually do something I dislike. But man, let it be actual news first.
I started this website because I'm tired of rumours and speculation. I've seen it first hand both on and off the record now things get twisted to fit a narrative or things don't get followed up on. Let's be better than this. It's exhausting to see constant negativity in a hobby meant to be about fun and joy and instead is about rumours more often than not. But I guess that's the nature of the media beast. This gets a lot more clicks than talking about the success of Hypercharge Unboxed on Xbox, and that's a shame.

The best baseball players in the world fail 70% of the time, and insiders get things wrong what feels like 70% of the time. Think about that next time before you lose your mind over the next thing that comes out and is likely untrue. Just enjoy the games.
