Circana has released their monthly report which focuses on game sales in the US and their is a runaway winner in March, Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Not only did Dragon’s Dogma 2 land the number 1 spot for the month, it is already the third best selling game of the year behind only Helldivers 2 and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3. What’s even more impressive is Dragon’s Dogma 2 has “already surpassed the life-to-date tracked dollar sales of Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen combined”.
While keeping in mind this is only the US it is still impressive. We know Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold 2.5 million worldwide after its first 11 days on market and that the first game and it’s remastered Arisen version have sold about 7.5 million lifetime. So it’s clear the sequel is doing quite well.

Other newcomers onto the chart include MLB The Show 24, which landed the 3rd spot for March and 5th on the year. The PlayStation exclusive Rise Of The Ronin landed the 5th spot and 14th on the monthly and yearly chart respectively. Nintendos Princess Peach grabbed 6th on the monthly chart, Unicorn Overlord the 8th spot and WWE 2K24 9th. None of those made the yearly chart.
As mentioned earlier, Helldivers 2 is still the best selling game of the year and is already the 7th best selling Sony published game in history just 2 months after launch.
Hardware
Hardware sales took a massive fall in March, with all 3 consoles dropping at least 30% compared to a year ago. Overall the first quarter of 2024 was down 24% compared to first quarter 2023. PlayStation 5 led the way in March with Nintendo Switch coming in second in terms of unit sales with Xbox Series S/X coming in second in terms of dollars earned.
Overall gaming is up 6% in the first quarter despite the decline in hardware sales.
