The Sea Of Thieves X account made a post yesterday saying their will be a closed PlayStation 5 beta this weekend. Players who participate will receive a free cosmetic, exclusive to the PlayStation version of the game. This has upset many fans, but is it a valid reason to be upset or not?
The Sea of Thieves @PlayStation 5 Closed Beta takes place this weekend, April 12th-15th (9am UTC)! Participate to earn the Dauntless Adventurer Sails and Title, for use exclusively on the PlayStation platform.

Ever since this was announced I've seen a ton of Xbox fans calling this out. It's certainly an interesting discussion, even if it seems quite silly on the surface. In the grand scheme of things this is nothing. It's a set of sails that you can put on your ship. Considering there's a billion sails in the game, one being exclusive is no big deal, right?
Well for those complaining, it's not, and the answer is simple. Last year Phil Spencer talked about exclusive content such as skins in Call Of Duty, and lamented the idea and vowed it won't happen once Call Of Duty is owned by Microsoft.

"We have no goal of trying to use Call of Duty to try and get you to buy an Xbox console,” Spencer said. “We’ve been on the other side of some of those skins and times… Even this beta, it wasn’t on Xbox the first week. I don’t think that helps the community, I don’t think it helps the game.”
Now for as popular and great Sea Of Thieves is certainly no Call Of Duty, but it still begs the question as to why they'd do this. I get they want to incentivize PlayStation fans to play the game, but I'm not sure an exclusive set of sails is the right approach, but I'm not a marketer.

But ultimately I think this is yet another thing Xbox related that is completely overblown. Is it strange? Absolutely. Enough to raise a fuss over to the proportions some are taking it to? Definitely not. Take a deep breath people, it will be ok.
Where do you stand on this, are people being upset justified or is it a nothing burger?
