Gamesindustry.biz released their monthly sales results for the month of February today with the clear runaway winner being PlayStation and Helldivers 2.
Not only did Helldivers 2 top the monthly charts, it did something that is very rare in gaming, it's sales went up week over week the first few weeks. Typically game sales drop 60-80% in week two where as Helldivers 2 increased 70%. To give some perspective the game has sold 5% less in its first month than Spider-Man 2 did. For context Spider-Man 2 was only available on the PlayStation 5 vs Helldivers 2 being on PS5 and Steam but still impressive none the less.
In second place was the always impressive EA FC 24. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone as the football game always does well month over month in Europe.

In third place was another new release, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. While the game is down 23% over the Remake the more fair comparison would be last years Final Fantasy 16 which when compared to that Rebirth sold 4% less. The game had a strong critical reception so we will see how well it's legs are.

Other new releases include Skull & Bones which finished a likely disappointing 9th. The game sold 30% less than its rival pirate game Sea of Thieves in its launch month. Mario Vs Donkey Kong debuted at 15th while indie darling debuted in 18th. It is also worth noting that Palworld isn't tracked and therefore isn't listed.

- 1. Helldivers 2
- 2. EA FC24

Hardware Sales Down
Console sales were up 11% compared to last February but there's a catch. This February had 5 weeks Vs 4 last year, so when comparing 4 weeks console sales were actually down 14%.

As far as the respective consoles are concerned PlayStation was down a modest 2%, the Nintendo Switch down 17% and the Xbox Series X/S was down 47%. Xbox in particular continues to struggle in Europe with no real signs of turning around. It will be interesting to see how things trend for them now that they are putting a few games on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
