Indie Spotlight – Hexonine Games

As triple A video games continue to grow in size and scope and with marketing budgets now rivalling (or exceeding) blockbuster movies, developing your own indie game is a truly a labour of love.

The 3 man team over at Hexonine Games agree,

“Making video games is a great privilege. As 3 brothers playing games since growing up in multiple countries (Canada, Iraq, Jordan, etc.) and embracing various different ideals, we have been working in many different fields (engineering, software development, project management, production, we have been gathering experiences from various gaming styles, cultural experiences and genres. We enjoy gaming in ALMOST all of its various styles.”

From left to right: Abdullah 25, (Coordination, Visuals, Audio, Production, Marketing, Animation), Mohammad 38, (Programmer, Designer, Technical Developer), Ahmed 31, (Marketing, Media, Production, Consulting)

Their first game, called Soulscape: Shadows of the Past is an episodic adventure game that uses your choices to shape the narrative going forward.

“The most interesting aspect for us in Soulscape: Shadows of The Past - Episode 1 is your choices make a difference in all the episodes to come, thus, choose wisely. In addition, our mixture of development technology has been to mix unprecedented combinations to come up with creative designs. We embrace strong spiritual discussions in the gaming experience.

This game focuses on puzzle, relaxing gameplay features, stories, and choice-based elements. We combined high quality graphics into this point and click because we are trying to add a different twist on games we are passionate about like the Tell-Tale series, Detroit Become Human, Deus Ex, etc.”

And even though we’ve seen a boom in single person projects over the last few years, the brothers over at Hexonine are already looking to expand the team to help them with their future ambitions.

“So far we are looking for opportunities to collaborate with business partners from all fields to engage in our creative process. Our team is currently increasing for episode 2 by adding an audio engineer and an experienced 2D artist for our upcoming projects. In addition we are in collaboration with a writer whilst we work on episode 2. Episode 1 will be coming to availability on PS5 and XBOX. Porting efforts will begin once episode 1 is launched on Steam in March 29 2024.”

Making games is a difficult endeavour. Especially as a small indie team, so us over here at Gamer Social Club wish them all the best for the future!
