Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the prior entry to the AC franchise which predates this years highly successful, Shadows (red our review) is getting a second anniversary update which includes new free content.
New story content – Valley of Memory
The base game of Mirage was set in 9th century Baghdad, with the new update taking us across the border into modern day Saudi Arabia, in the region of AlUla.
In the trailer above, the developers talk about their inspiration and cultural considerations when making the new content. Ubisoft have worked with archaeologists to recreate the new region within the Arabian Peninsula which has been the home of ancient kingdoms, some of which date back to the 1st century BCE. AlUla is a treasure trove of archaeological finds that will be part of the game.

The new story “arc is an important part of Basim’s coming-of-age story”. There will be a focus on his relationship with his long-lost father, Is’haq. The story will offer players a deeper understanding of why Basim chose the path in life that he has taken.
The new content will be more than 6 hours of gameplay which will include the core story content as well as side missions.
Gameplay enhancements
The new region, as well as the base game’s Baghdad, will also bring some gameplay enhancements to Mirage which will make traversal across the new diverse region more accessible.
There will be new parkour mechanics to offer Basim new moves to traverse the 9th century playgrounds. The developers will add a new free jump, upgrades to tools and more.
Exciting new visual filters are also being added which pay homage to the colour palettes of previous Assassin’s Creed games – Greece located Odyssey, and ancient Egypt from Origins:

Other gameplay enhancements in Mirage include:
- Replayable missions and challenge
- New difficulty levels to augment the challenge:
- Medium+
- Very Hard
- Customisable difficulity
